Your first reaction might be simply to sigh, and fair enough. I also think that the Halo merchandise has gotten a little out of hand. But these things are actually kind of cool, and if I was still 12 I’d want one!
I’ve seen these for sale at Amazon. Also available is a not-so-cool Plasma Pistol.
Oh man, and I thought that Team Fortress 2 Sentry Turret was cool, check this thing out!

Look familiar?
The Samsung’s SC9540 Vacuum is labeled as being “the strong, silent type” on their website.
Is it sad that I almost feel like cleaning the house when I see this thing?

You may remember Johnny Chung Lee from a couple of months ago, when I posted about the VR displays he was creating with a Wii Remote.
If you enjoyed that stuff, then you should definitely read this interview that Game Informer had with him.
The dude is actually not the big Wii fanboy that you may think he is:
I do play video games and I like video games, but I was much more excited about the capabilities of the controller than I was the Wii game console itself. It’s amazingly impressive that Nintendo just allowed the ability to connect it to a computer over Bluetooth, which I think has been great for both the hobby community as well as the research community.

Could this be one of the coolest case mods ever? I think so.
I’d hate to have to carry this thing around to LANs n stuff though…

Who wants a 2880 * 900 curved monitor when they can have a full 360-degree projected monitor?
These Germans dudes/dudettes have set up a network of projectors that seems to be powered by a Wii Remote – and who said Nintendo Wii wasn’t next gen

Marathon gaming. We’ve all done it before. But we probably haven’t done anything as organised as getting a group of Zelda fans together with the goal of beating all four Zelda titles (Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess) in just 48 hours. I’m not sure about you guys, but it took me well over 30 hours to 100% Twilight Princess alone, I think Ocarina of Time took me close to 40 to finish back in 1998.
This group of guys have set up a webcam so you can watch their progress. So far after 10 hours the CameronBanga Team have beaten Ocarina of Time, and are working their way through Majora’s Mask.
I’m not entirely sure if they’ll make it… Whoever is on the controller right now, kinda sucks.
It’s worth checking out. These guys seem to be having a lot of fun.

“The issue of obesity is complex and is absolutely one our society is facing, there’s no denial about that,” said Easterbrook. “But if you break it down I think there’s an education piece: how can we better communicate to individuals the importance of a balanced diet and taking care of themselves? Then there’s a lifestyle element: there’s fewer green spaces and kids are sat home playing computer games on the TV when in the past they’d have been burning off energy outside.” – McDonald’s Boss, Steve Easterbrook
It’s all very true. You can argue all day long if you want to, but the fact is there’s no one thing that is to blame for obesity.
McDonald’s do have a responsibility when it comes to educating kids about how they’re eating. Here is New Zealand they have made a very good effort at making their products healthier, but it’s never going to get to the point where it’s healthy enough to eat once a day.
To me that’s where McDonald’s responsibilities end – with food choices. Now comes the “lifestyle element”.
Unless you’re a perfect eater, who knows exactly how many calories they can eat each day while sitting on the couch (which I’m sure you’re not), you’re going to put on weight without exercise. I think what Steve Easterbrook is saying, is that this is where the Video Game industry needs to take charge. And I agree.
It’s been a long time since I turned on my Nintendo Wii, but I do remember there being a message that came up every now and then, it was something like “why not take a break for little while”, with a picture of the outdoors. This could be the start.

Splitscreen multiplayer has been around since… forever – and it has always been both a positive, and a negative.
Positive, because you’re getting to play your fav game with a buddy.
Negative, because now you have to share half the damn screen!
But perhaps not for long.
Texas Instruments has invented a pair of glasses that will allow two people to play on the same screen, without it being split.
How, you ask? Well. Two images are superimposed on top of each other, and then depending what setting your pair of glasses are on, you’ll only see that particular image.
It’s kind of like the invisible Map on the back of the Declaration of Independence in National Treasure… You know, where he lifts up the red flap thing on the glasses and then sees something different?
You can still cheat with it at the moment, but I’m sure they’ll work it all out eventually.
Head over to Gizmodo and check out the short video.

Oh. Good. God. I want one.
It’s backlit by LEDs, has a pretty amazing response time of just .02ms, and runs a resolution of 2880 * 900.
Look out for it in the second half of this year… Though, don’t expect to be able to afford it.
