Max Payne – Movie

Media - No Comments »Feb 04, 2008

Some of you may be excited, others may be outraged, some may even be scared. Either way, filming for the new *game turned movie* Max Payne is set to start on March 2 in Toronto.

The movie features Mark Wahlberg (who I personally think suits the role), and is directed by John Moore, whose recent projects include Behind Enemy Lines and Flight of the Phoenix.

While the track record for game based movies has been pretty extremely horrible, I’m going to reserve judgment until I’ve seen a bit more. I’ve always thought Max Payne would make a kick ass movie – though, that was many years ago, before every other game was murdered on the big screen.

Twisted Metal: Head On for the PS2 is looking pretty sweet. It might even be good enough for you to put down that copy of Twisted Metal that’s running on your PSP.

Above you have a trailer set in Moscow, and below is one set in Egypt.

CoD4 – Mapping Contest

Gaming - No Comments »Feb 02, 2008

With the release of the Call of Duty 4 1.5 patch, comes the opportunity for players to create their own maps using the new Mod Tools. Also along with this patch, comes a competition. PC players are being asked to submit their home brew maps to the Infinity Ward CoD4 team, the maps will be judged, and a winner decided on March 31.

What’s your dream map? Wide open spaces perfect for sniping, or close quarters combat with plenty of cover to bound back and forth from? Maybe a nice mixture with plenty of avenues to attack from and some perfect choke points you can ambush from with the right amount of team work. Whatever you think makes a good multiplayer map, we want to see it. Most importantly, we want your best work.

We’re still waiting to see what the prize for best map is. At the moment all we know is there will be “special prizing and opportunities” – perhaps a job?

For more details you can visit the Infinity Ward contest page.

David Jaffe – Quote Of The Month

Humour - No Comments »Feb 01, 2008

David Jaffe is well known in the gaming industry – for those not in the know, he was behind Twisted Metal and God of War II. David likes to speak his mind. Sometimes it lands him in a bit of trouble, but other times it lands him deep into my heart.

This quote is taken from an interview he had with Wired where they talked about the Twisted Metal series.

Kohler: Apparently when Miyamoto first went to Retro Studios, they were making a car combat game, he said, “Why would you make that? Why would you put a gun on a car?” And they stopped development on the game. So maybe you should answer that question. Why would you put a gun on a car?

Jaffe: You know, honestly, I’ve been too busy recently trying to figure out why the fuck go-karts shoot banana peels.

Genius.

This Lost Odyssey trailer is well cut together, but that music. My god, what the hell is that? Are we back in the 60′s?

The Bourne Conspiracy – Trailer

This trailer for The Bourne Conspiracy (game) is actually looking pretty damn badass. However, I’m trying not to get too excited about it. It’s been a long, long time since a movie turned game (or for that matter, game turned movie) has delivered on what I thought I would be getting.

Haze – Co-Op Footage

Ubisoft’s Haze has had many, many delays, but perhaps this footage of their Co-Op mode will help make up for that.

They boast that you will be able to play up to 4 player Co-Op, either by LAN, split-screen, or online, and that joining a co-op match via split-screen is as easy as pushing “start” on the 2nd controller.

Haze is currently set to be available in April.

Off-Road Velociraptor Safari

Off-Road Velociraptor Safari is here! You may remember me talking about it a little over a week ago, well, it’s finally available (actually it was available 2 days ago, sorry for being a little slow to pick up on that).

It’s pretty easy to get started. All you have to do is d/l and install a little program allows 3D stuff to happen in your browser, restart your browser, create an account (or just play as a guest), and then let the game (which actually happens pretty damn quick).

FOX News Mass Effect Parody

Humour - No Comments »Jan 29, 2008

This is a parody of Geoff Keighley’s appearance on FOX News. The interview itself is decent, but it’s the opening introduction which I found truly awesome.
